In this 6-week hand-building workshop, we’ll meet once a week for 2 hours, all materials included. We encourage all participants in the class so enroll in their membership to access open studio time.
You’ll learn core hand building techniques—such as pinching, coiling, and slab building—to create both functional and sculptural pieces. We’ll also explore surface decoration with underglazes and slips, using methods like inlay and sgraffito.
Class Outline
Day 1 – Introduction to coils and pinch pots
Day 2 – Slab building: stamps and inlay with slips/underglaze
Day 3 – Slab building continued: introduction to sgraffito
Day 4 – Open project: expand into functional or sculptural forms using learned techniques
Day 5 – Open project: final handbuilding session
Day 6 – Glazing: pieces will be fired and ready for pickup 3–4 weeks after class
