This is for everyone’s safety!!
Some glazes produce fumes we are not able to vent, others can interact and explode in the kiln, damaging equipment and other’s people work, and some are not even food safe.
Kiln Firings
Firing is first come first serve, please do not “reserve” shelves, only place pieces that are ready to be fired as they are.
Shelves are 1/2 a diameter of the kiln and 5.5” inches in height. Any additional 5.5” in height has to be purchased as another shelf. Maximum height for firing: 20”
When placing your firing order for bisque or glaze, please ensure that your pieces are placed within the designated shelf outline. Each week, a maximum of two shelves are allowed.. It is essential that all purchased shelf spaces are labeled with your name and order number, and each individual piece is consistently signed. Orders that do not meet these requirements will not be fired.
Pricing: bisque is $20 and glaze is $25, If your items exceed 5.5" in height, you will need to purchase two shelves to accommodate the additional space in the kiln. Similarly, for items over 11", three shelves will be required. The maximum allowable height for firing is 20".
Firing Schedule:
Bisque Firings: Scheduled every Wednesday.
Glaze Firings: Scheduled every Monday and Friday.
Important Considerations:
Turn over rate is 1-2 weeks depending on how busy the studio is. Please consider this in advance if you need your pieces by a certain time. We will not make any changes in the schedule by request, please don’t expect accommodations.
Kiln Heating and Cooling: Please be aware that it takes a full day for the kiln to reach the desired temperature and an additional full day to cool down. For example, pieces loaded on Monday will be ready for pick up on Wednesday after noon.
Timely Pickup: All fired pieces must be picked up within the same week that they are unloaded.
Guidelines for Firing:
Proper Labeling: Ensure that your pieces are appropriately labeled. Unlabeled or harmed work will not be fired.
Wet/Leather Hard Pieces: Any pieces that are still wet or in the leather hard state cannot be loaded into the bisque firing.
Glazing Quality: Glazed pieces with a poor glazing job will not be fired. Take care to apply the glaze properly, leaving the base unglazed with at least a quarter-inch gap between the glaze and the base of the piece.
Clay Source: Please note that clay purchased from outside the studio will not be fired.
